Building
Construction Site Visit
Building Construction Site Visit (Dated 21.10.2019) was organized for class
1-B to St. Gregorius School, Sector – 11, Dwarka, New Delhi.
It
has often been desired by Higher Authorities of the institute that in addition
to theoretical training, through lectures/studio work etc., practical training
should also be imparted to students of respective classes especially in respect
of Building Construction methods and latest technologies being adopted in Real
Estate Sector to broaden their sphere of knowledge about construction.
In
compliance to above, the undersigned has voluntarily taken up a lead role in
organizing various site visits of the upcoming Real Estate Projects, for
various classes of the institute. Undersigned is also of the view that the best
way to learn Building Construction subject, is to visit the relevant site to
see and document the structural system and various construction details being implemented
at site. It is also felt that a rich knowledge about latest ongoing building
construction techniques automatically leads to development and enhancement of
very good skills in Building Designing. Thus, building construction and
architectural designing go hand in hand, together.
With
the above background, a site visit was organized for class 1-B students as per
the following description:
1. Objective:
The prime objective was to study and
sensitize students of 1st year regarding brickwork bonds i.e.,
English Bond, Header Bond, Arch Construction and exposed brick cladding
construction work being undertaken in the school as per the curriculum/syllabus
for the first semester.
2. Identification
of the Project Site/Permission from Competent Authority:
It was noticed
that St.
Gregorios School at Dwarka is in the process of vertical future
expansion and very good exposed brick cladding work and arch formation work is
being done. So, it was considered to be the most ideal and nearby site for the
students to see and to learn exposed brick work, brick bonds and arch
construction techniques.
3. After
seeking verbal approval for site visit from the Principal of the School, an in
house Notice dated 21.10.2019 (Annexure –
2) was issued after due approval from the concerned faculties and competent
authority i.e., Batch Coordinator, BCM Coordinator and Director Sir.
Accordingly, site visit was held on 21.10.2019 in forenoon. All the students of the class along
with Subject Faculty i.e., undersigned and Ar. Shubhangi Saxena visited
the site. Site visit report is attached herewith (Annexure – 3).
4. As
desired separate photo gallery (Annexure – 4) is also attached.
Positive
Outcome of the site visit: During the visit, the
students could observe and understand construction of English Bond in external
230 mm fillar wall around the arches. They also gathered knowledge about frame
construction comprising of column and beams. They could observe Header Bond with
bricks placed radially used for construction of semi- circular part of the
staircase. They could see and understand how arches (semi-circular and circular)
are constructed by using a mold. They could understand how brick cladding is
done using machine made bricks cut to size. They felt quite excited to see
brick/stone cutting machine and sand sieving machine and made video clipping demonstrating
its operation. They noticed different size of Reinforcement Bars being used at
site along with fabrication of Mild Steel Window frames with semicircular head.
They also noticed other finishes like exposed grit work (locally called Dhullai
Dana) applied on the staircase surface and saw materials like red /buff colour
sand stone slabs being used for cladding purpose. They observed that Watchmen
Cabin was covered with pyramidal roof over which corrugated terracotta tiles
were fixed. At entrance, the school name was beautifully engraved on orange
colour granite slab.
Thus,
the site visit was quite informative and the students were quite satisfied and
happy with the site visit outcome. All the students and accompanying faculty members
returned back to college to continue with the remaining period of BC Classes.
